Meet Mayor Sandra Vincent

My Leadership: Heart, Experience, Results

A Heart Wired for Service

Compassion isn’t a choice, it is who I am and why I serve. Leadership comes from the heart, and I will never trade that away.

Results-Driven Leadership as Mayor

As Mayor, I have led under a banner of Good Governance, marked by transparency, accountability, responsible finance, collaboration, and community-centered solutions. With over 30 years in housing, human services, community and economic development, my approach balances proven practical knowledge with genuine care for people.

Regional and Statewide Advocacy

Representing McDonough on the Georgia Municipal Association’s Federal Policy Council and as past-President of the Metro South District, I have shaped policy, earned the respect of peers, and advanced professional municipal leadership recognized statewide. My Doctorate in Humane Letters is a testament to ongoing ethical, inclusive leadership.

Environmental Responsibility & Beautification

McDonough’s natural beauty is a treasure that must be preserved. I’ve fought for smart, sustainable growth that protects air, open space, and our environment while supporting community values. The McDonough Beautiful vision is a clean, proud city—because when we care for our surroundings, we inspire respect and unity. Inviting national voices like civic advocate Jeff Siegler has reinforced that beautification is cultural, psychological, and economic—and it shapes our city’s future.

Honoring Traditions & The Power of Story

Every year, I bring “Mama Christmas” to life—a tribute to the wise women in my family and a celebration of meaningful traditions. These stories, like our city’s stories, connect our past and guide our future. Thank you for welcoming Mama Christmas as part of our community’s living heritage.

The Heart to Grow a Thriving McDonough

The Heart I Have for McDonough

McDonough is more than a city, it’s a community built on history, pride, and the promise of a bright future. Though not born here, I answered a calling to belong, to serve, and to pour my heart into every corner of our remarkable city. From the moment I first drove into the Square, McDonough became my home and my purpose.

Early Service & Deep Community Roots

My public journey began outside of elected office, serving as PTA leader at Wesley Lakes Elementary, working with committees like Mainstreet Design and Impact Fee Steering, and chairing the Downtown Development Authority. With fellow volunteers, we revived traditions like the Thriller Parade, Princess Parade, and Camp Creek Train Wreck celebrations. Helping launch the McDonough Beautiful Initiative, and working alongside the late Euretha Lyles, remains one of my proudest moments, as does supporting the Youth Advisory Council’s continued impact on our youth.

Building Community, Empowering Neighbors

I’ve worked to empower every part of McDonough, including:

  • Bringing the Walk to End Alzheimer’s to our city.

  • Over 16 years partnering with Habitat for Humanity, the Fuller Center, and arts organizations.

  • Supporting senior citizens with critical housing and food resources.

  • Protecting neighborhoods from harmful development.

  • Championing inclusive planning for Wade Farms, our city’s largest land tract.

  • Launching the Small Business and HOA Boot Camps for stronger local leadership.

  • Raising awareness for spinal cord health with Walk for Wheels.

  • Leading the drive to bring the Shaquille O’Neal Boys & Girls Club to McDonough.

  • Creating a thriving community garden at Doris and Bridges Road through Girls First.

  • Founding the McDonough Arts Council, and supporting civic groups and Girl Scouts to broaden opportunities for young people.

  • Preserving over 100 acres of greenspace with Councilwoman Gail Notti, championing Alexander Park East and West.

Proven Leadership in Times of Growth

As McDonough’s first Black woman mayor, Sandra Vincent has guided the city through unprecedented growth while fiercely protecting its beloved small-town character. With over 25 years in public service and 16 years on the City Council, she brings deep experience and commitment to every decision.

Champion for Good Governance

Mayor Vincent ran on a robust good governance platform, anchored by transparency, clear policies, and citizen engagement, to ensure McDonough’s government serves all residents equally and effectively. Her “Mayor for All McDonough” approach brings together diverse voices, data-driven solutions, and long-term strategies to address current needs and future challenges.

Investing in Community and Staff

During her tenure, Mayor Vincent prioritized professional development for city staff, modernizing government operations and raising standards so employees can best serve the public. She launched regular public forums and communications, empowering residents to have their concerns heard and addressed directly.

Forward-Thinking Solutions for a Growing City

Sandra Vincent’s leadership tackles the biggest challenges head-on, from transforming traffic infrastructure and supporting the Henry Connect Microtransit system to hosting community events that make McDonough feel welcoming and connected for everyone. Her accomplishments include reviving beautification initiatives and fostering partnerships that deliver results, all while remaining responsive to citizen feedback.

A Vision Not Yet Finished

“It’s impossible to finish everything in four years, but the foundation is strong and the momentum is real,” says Mayor Vincent. She urges voters to help her complete the work she began, promising continued dedication, integrity, and results for all.

Join Us in Setting the New Standard

McDonough’s growth is inevitable, but by working together with vision, care, and heart, we can ensure it strengthens the city we love. Let’s move McDonough Forward together.

Together, we are McDonough. Together, we are the New Standard.
